Cold Cash for Reading!
Spring 2010 Reading Challenge
Would you like to earn money for reading?  Come by the library and register for the
Spring 2010 Reading Challenge which can earn you $25, $15 or $10.  You may also
be eligible for the spring reading celebration with pizza in May. 
 
What do you have to do?
1.  Pick up a registration form in your library media center and complete the registration.
2.  Read a minumun of 600 minutes (yes, that's 10 hrs.) to be eligible for prizes.
3.  Write down your minutes each day and have a parent or guardian verify your minutes.
4.  Turn in your reading log with minutes by May 14th to the library.

Mission Statement
The mission of Palmetto High School Library Media Center is to assist members of the learning community in becoming effective users of information and to foster the love of reading.

Palmetto High School Library Media Centers houses over 9,000 books, subscribes to 50 current magazines, and 4 newspapers. The library media center has 33 computers for student use. Our web-based online public access catalog (OPAC) also provides print and nonprint information to students and teachers at remote locations.

Circulation Policies
Students may check out books for two weeks and renew once. Vertical file materials, newspapers, reference books and audiovisual materials are for library use only. Fines are five cents a day excluding days not in school. Students with a fine can not check out books until their library records are clear. Students may have five books checked out at a time. Three may be nonfiction and two fiction or two nofiction and three nonfiction may count toward the five.  Excluding the current month, magazines may be checked out overnight.  Late magazines are twenty-five cents a day.  Cost of replacement for a magazine is five dollars.

Students are welcomed to come to the library media center without a pass before school hours and after school hours. All other times, a student is welcome to come with a pass signed by a teacher or administrator to get the student down the halls to the library. A pass to come down the halls are also required at lunch. Upon entering the library, students must sign in and show their pass to either Mrs. Bryant or Mrs. Davis. Upon leaving, the student must bring the pass to a staff member to be signed.
